For banks, Q2 had no shocks, few cheers: Call it the banking blues — or maybe the doldrums. Many smaller Twin Cities banks s continued to report lackluster financial numbers in the second quarter as they set aside more money to cover troubled loans, many of them in the construction and commercial real estate areas. About 40 percent of area banks reported a loss in the three months ended June 30, about the same percentage as the second quarter of 2009. Read full story

Visa Championships will bring top gymnasts to Twin Cities in 2011: The 2011 Visa Championships, the USA Gymnastics championship event that determines national teams and national champions, will be held in the Twin Cities next fall. Men’s and women’s gymnastics events will be held at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Read full story

Life Time Fitness closes downtown St. Paul club: Life Time Fitness has announced plans to close its downtown St. Paul location on Aug. 13. The Chanhassen-based fitness center chain opened a location at the University Club building in 1997. A spokeswoman confirmed the closure plans, but didn’t give a reason for the move. The St. Paul Pioneer Press reported that the company wasn’t able to come to new lease terms with the building’s landlord, and was actively seeking another downtown St. Paul site. Read full story

Brookdale Center for sale: Brookdale Center is for sale, with a listing price of $17.5 million. CB Richard Ellis’ local office began listing the 605,000-square-foot, 64-acre property last week. The property does not include the Sears or Macy’s parcels, which are independently owned. Read full story
