3M to buy biometrics firm for $943 million: 3M Co. has reached a deal to buy Cogent Inc., a maker of biometric identification systems, in a deal worth about $943 million. Maplewood-based 3M said Monday it’s agreed to pay $10.50 per share for Cogent. The offer marks an 18 percent premium over Cogent’s most recent closing price of $8.91 per share. Read full story

Red Wing Shoe won’t close Kentucky plant: Red Wing Shoe Co. is no longer planning to shut down a facility in Danville, Ky., according to a report from the Advocate-Messenger newspaper. The Red Wing-based shoe manufacturer announced late last year that it would close the facility in June. However, it has decided to keep it up and running, partly due to rising demand for work boots, according to the report. Read full story
