Children’s receives $1.6 million NIH grant to assist with cancer care: Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota recently was awarded a five-year $1.6 million grant by the National Institutes of Health Cancer Education Grants Program. Children’s will use the funds to develop a training program to improve access to pediatric palliative care for children with advanced cancer and other life-threatening conditions, according to a press release. 3M to acquire Arizant: 3M Co. on Thursday announced it’s buying Eden Prairie-based Arizant Inc. for $810 million in cash. It’s the latest deal in 3M’s recent $2 billion acquisition spree. Arizant manufactures hospital patient warming solutions designed to prevent hypothermia in surgical settings. Read full story

MacPhail Center CEO to depart for Humanities Center: David O’Fallon, the CEO of the MacPhail Center for Music, is leaving that organization at the end of October in order to join Minnesota Humanities Center as its new president Nov. 1. O’Fallon has been CEO of the music educator MacPhail since 2002. Read full story
