Target starts holiday shopping season early: Target is opening the holiday shopping season early this year by offering deep discounts in a pre-Black Friday sale, the company said Thursday. The Minneapolis-based discount retailer will go after shopper dollars with a four-day sale that starts on Nov. 21 and runs until Thanksgiving Day, the company said in a news release. Read full story

Emerging markets fuel 3M earnings boost: Higher sales for 3M in emerging markets and five of its six business lines led the company beyond analysts’ estimates with record third-quarter earnings that grew 13.3 percent over the same time last year. The Maplewood-based manufacturer on Thursday reported earnings of $1.11 billion, or $1.53 per share, on sales of $6.9 billion, up 11 percent from Q3 2009. Read full story
