National Tire & Battery buys 15 franchises, enters Minnesota: A Florida-based tire retailer has acquired 15 Minnesota Tires Plus franchise stores in the Twin Cities and its bringing in a new brand name, National Tire & Battery, to the Twin Cities. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. TBC Corp., based in Juno Beach, Fla. acquired the dealerships from three local franchise owners. The largest was St. Paul-based Petro Plus Twin Cities, which owned 11 of the stores. Larry Dimmen, who had been with Tires Plus for 23 years, said he and partner Tony Seaton were looking for an exit strategy and TBC was looking at getting in the market. Read full story

Medtronic announces more spinal products: Medtronics has released a new spinal reconstruction product called the Vertex Select Reconstruction System Posted Screw Module. The Vertex system will be used to treat conditions that include degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, fracture, tumors and spondylolisthesis. The system includes headless, posted screws, and adjustable connectors. Read full story

Mayo to hold summit on hockey concussions: Mayo Clinic will hold a summit later this month to discuss how concussions affect the sport of hockey. The event will address several topics, including ways to reduce players’ risk of suffering concussions and how the injuries affect children. Trainers, hockey equipment manufacturers, scientists and coaches from Canada, Europe and United States will participate. Read full story
