After a fairly pointed kiss-off last May, AM1280 The Patriot has reinstated Bradlee Dean’s “Sons of Liberty” radio show.
Four months ago, a track-suited Dean stood before the Minnesota House of Representatives to deliver an incendiary “prayer” implying President Obama was not a Christian. He was later condemned by GOP leadership even though a GOP legislator had invited him. As it turned out, The Patriot had dropped “Sons of Liberty” a few days before.
At the time, Patriot general manager Ron Stone told MinnPost:
I truly believed it was a conservative radio show in the right spirit. I don’t have an issue with him debating the marriage amendment, photo ID, Obamacare, things that deserve to be debated. What I do have issues with is the divisive tone — we’re not bigots, we’re not racists. Even though we don’t agreed with the president on policy, I don’t think he should be likened to a terrorist. Given what happened at the Capitol, I’m so happy with the decision I made.
Now? Not so much. “Sons of Liberty” held The Patroit’s State Fair stage for two hours Saturday afternoon, and an operator at the station confirms the show will air 4-6 p.m. Saturdays beginning this week.
The principals are tight-lipped about what got Dean back on the air. Dean declined comment, and Stone did not return several messages left over a couple of days. (Stone, by the way, was originally a board member of Dean’s “You Can Run But You Cannot Hide International, but later stepped down.)
There’s talk in The Patriot’s halls that the decision was dictated by California-based parent Salem Communications. Salem officials were not available for comment. Frequently, shows like “Sons of Liberty” pay for airtime, and financial considerations can play a part.
Earlier this year, Dean sued MSNBC host Rachel Maddow and Minnesota Independent for defamation, springing from Dean statements regarding violence against Muslims. Among other things, Minnesota Independent reported: “‘Muslims are calling for the executions of homosexuals in America,’ Dean said on YCR’s May 15 radio show on AM 1280 The Patriot. ‘This just shows you they themselves are upholding the laws that are even in the Bible of the Judeo-Christian God, but they seem to be more moral than even the American Christians do, because these people are livid about enforcing their laws. They know homosexuality is an abomination.'”
Meh. When it comes to real, white hot HATE Dean is a piker.
For that kind of enlightenment, I always tune into Air America at 8:00 pm to catch the Mike Malloy show…”How long do we have to wait until the streets run red with these Republican cockroaches blood?”…Yowza! Now *there’s* some hatred a guy can sink his teeth into eh, Dave?

Ah, the old “he’s a hate-filled bigot but there’s a worse one on the other side” excuse. Touché.
What you don’t seem to understand, is that while we expect to find this type of “dialogue” on AM radio, there it stays pretty much unnoticed by most people. What was unique about Dean, unless your AA host had an issue I’m unaware of, was that he was given a prominent stage by the GOP, and he chose to make his little tirade then. If you can’t tell the difference, think a bit more during your next vacation from trolling minnpost.
When you get an increasing proportion of the people listening to just one group of advocates who constantly lie to them, it’s not going to end well.
Um, could you do something about that picture? It’s got to be 20 years old. I’ve seen Bradley Dean Smith–sorry, Bradlee Dean–up close, and he hasn’t looked like that in a very long time.
