Ellison in Saudi Arabia, meets with King Abdullah

WASHINGTON — Rep. Keith Ellison is in Saudi Arabia on a trip with Minnesota business leaders. On the itinerary: A meeting with King Abdullah, a man whom Ellison reported is “focused on modernizing a very treditional nation.”

Ellison posted details of the trip on his official Twitter account this morning in a trio of tweets:

  • Had an excellent meeting w/ the Custodian of the Two Holy Sites yesterday. Very wise and intelligent man.
  • Custodian of Two Holy Sites is King Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz of of Saudi Arabia. 85 yrs. Focused on modernizing very traditional nation
  • I am in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) w/ 16 Minnesota businesses building bi-lateral business relationship. Had 11. Growing.

The ‘Two Holy Sites’ Ellison mentioned are Mecca and Medina, two of the holiest sites in Islam that are both located in Saudi Arabia.

I called his office and put in a request to speak with Ellison, and will update when he gets back to me.
