WASHINGTON — President Obama’s formal outreach to Congress over the next Supreme Court pick started today with a White House meeting between Obama and Senate leaders, followed by calls to nine senators.
Amy Klobuchar was among six Democrats on the Judiciary Committee who Obama called, her office confirmed. The president also called three Republicans on the panel,
A White House spokesman said the call was part of Obama’s “commitment to reach out to Senators on both sides of the aisle about his nominee to the Supreme Court.”
Al Franken, also on the Judiciary Committee, was not on the call list, though the spokesman added that the president “will make calls to additional Senators in the days ahead.”
