Klobuchar confirms she’ll back Kagan

WASHINGTON — Sen. Amy Klobuchar today confirmed what had been widely expected, that she’ll vote to confirm Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan when Kagan’s nomination comes up for a vote.

“I would have voted for her today and I will next week,” Klobuchar said today. “I am just frustrated that we have another week delay.”

Klobuchar becomes the fourth Democrat to support Kagan, joining her colleague Al Franken who expressed his support last week.

The Judiciary Committee’s vote on Kagan was postponed by a week after a request from Ranking Member Jeff Sessions of Alabama. Following the hearing, Klobuchar expressed frustration at the delay.

This Congress has got to be dealing with the economy, small business and unemployment,” she said. “Everyone in this room knows how they are going to vote, I just think this delay was unnecessary.”

Kagan’s vote in the Judiciary Committee is now likely to come July 20. Senate Democrats hope to confirm her by August 6.
