WASHINGTON — Both national parties will be on air in southern Minnesota from Thursday, as national Democrats announced a firewall ad buy in support of Rep. Tim Walz.
The move comes almost a week after a KAAL-TV/SurveyUSA poll showed Walz leading state Rep. Randy Demmer by just five points, 47-42. Walz, a two-term Democrat, held the seat in 2008 with more than 62 percent of the vote. DCCC officials, while not disclosing the amount of the buy, called it “significant” and said the ad would be running at “saturation levels.”
The ad, headlined “Randy Demmer: Not Worth the Risk,” hits Demmer over Social Security. The ad can be seen below.
NRCC spokesman Tom Erickson crowed at the ad buy, reminding that Democrats have for months said there was little chance Demmer could take the seat.
“Their decision to bailout out their errand boy is proof positive that Randy Demmer’s message of creating jobs and growing the economy is resonating with southern Minnesota families who are sick and tired of Walz and his Washington games.”
