WASHINGTON — Take this with the appropriate caveats, which is that exit polls ONLY count day-of votes (no earlies or absentees) and can occasionally be off, but the ones out this year suggest that Democrats are likely to keep hold of the Senate.
Exit polls have Democrats taking four of the seven races rated as “toss-ups” by the Cook Political Report, with a fifth (Nevada) dead even — though Harry Reid may be a slight favorite there because he had a lead among early voters.
Assuming every other race goes as anticipated in the Senate (again, a big if), Democrats would keep the Senate with 52 or 53 seats.
