Bachmann hires former O’Donnell spokesman as new communications director

WASHINGTON — Rep. Michele Bachmann has brought back to three the number of staffers working on communications and media, hiring Doug Sachtleben as her new communications director.

Politics junkies may already know Sachtleben — he was spokesman for the Senate campaign of Delaware Republican (and Tea Party darling) Christine O’Donnell, and in that way the job will be somewhat similar. O’Donnell had a national media audience following every detail of her run, while Bachmann’s staff fields more than 100 media requests per day, most from outlets outside Minnesota.

Sachtleben was also recently a writer for the House Republican Conference under Mike Pence (who has the leadership job Bachmann unsuccessfully bid for) and a Capitol correspondent for the conservative Salem Radio News.

Bachmann’s campaign spokesman, Sergio Gor, returned to her Washington office to focus on national media while press secretary Becky Rogness will be the point person for Minnesota media while also working out of D.C.
