Paulsen taps NRCC’s Erickson as new spokesman

WASHINGTON — Rep. Erik Paulsen today tapped Tom Erickson, the Midwest spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, as his new communications director. Erickson replaces Mark Giga, who left to become the communications director for Business Partnership.

“As someone who has worked with media in Minnesota and DC, Tom will certainly be an asset as we continue to protect Minnesota’s important medical technology industry, fight for the small business owners that power our economy and strive to create a more efficient and effective government,” Paulsen said in a statement announcing the hire.

Erickson has deep Minnesota ties, he’s a native Minnesotan (though from the 7th District), who in 2008 was the deputy communications director for Norm Coleman’s campaign. Before that, he was a press assistant for Gov. Tim Pawlenty who helped produce the governor’s Good Morning Minnesota program.

Erickson, like the two Paulsen communications directors who have preceded him, will be based out of Paulsen’s Eden Prairie office, while his press secretary and new media specialist Anne Marie Malecha remains in the Washington office.
