Phil Krinkie, the president of the fiscally conservative Taxpayers League of Minnesota, is reportedly considering running against U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar or launching a U.S. House bid in Michele Bachmann’s 6th District in 2012.
“In both races, it’s a toe in the water,” Krinkie told Forum Communications.
Krinkie said he’s considering a run because no recognizable Republican candidate has stepped up to challenge Klobuchar. Had former Sen. Norm Coleman or former Gov. Tim Pawlenty decided to run, Krinikie said he wouldn’t be considering entering the race, according to the report.
Only two Republicans have announced their candidacy: former state Rep. Dan Severson and St. Bonifacius City Councilman Joe Arwood.
Kinkie is also considering running for Bachmann’s House seat if she doesn’t run for re-election. Bachmann is currently running for president, of course, but could run for re-election to the House if she doesn’t win the Republican presidential nomination. Krinkie pegs her likelihood of running at 50 percent.
A former 16-year state lawmaker, Krinkie joined the Taxpayers League in 2007. His Taxpayers League biography said he developed the nickname “Dr. No” for his opposition to higher taxes or government spending.

Mr. Krinkie also is a MNSCU Trustee and the owner of Snelling Heating in St. Paul. Given his company’s use of federal tax credits as a sales tool, I wonder what his position is on such credits.
