Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, who will face the electorate in a June 5 recall election, said Friday in a speech in Illinois that that he will survive the June 5 recall election and that his success will inspire others to make the kind of “tough choices” he made in his first weeks in office that set off the recall. Here’s the quote:
I think when we win, it will not only reaffirm what we did. It will send a powerful message to every politician…in our state and even in our city governments who are trying to take on the tough issues and do the right thing,” Walker said. “It will send a powerful, powerful message that you can stick your neck out, you can make the tough choices and there will be voters helping you along the way.
The latest poll, commissioned by Daily Kos and conducted by the robo-dialer Public Policy Polling, shows Walker leading either of the two most likely Democrats who will face him.
Things could change once the Dems unite behind one of the four candidates, but with the Dem primary set for May 8 (that’s two weeks from tomorrow), there will be just four weeks for the Dems to unite and campaign.
Of the four Dems, the fight for the right to take on Walker in June is deemed likely to be between Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk. Barrett is better known, having been the Dem nominee for governor in 2010 and losing to Walker by 52-46. But Barrett has alienated organized labor with his treatment of unions as mayor. Labor is backing Falk.
Secretary of State Doug La Follette and state Sen. Kathleen Vinehout will also be on the May 8 Dem primary ballot.

But when it comes down to it, Labor will not choose Walker over Barrett. To choose the weaker candidate (not necessarily saying Falk is the weaker candidate) because of hard feelings would be foolish. Foolish enough that, if the weaker candidate is put on the ballot and loses, the results will be deserved. As much as I believe Walker should be politically strung up, I can’t condone the stupidity that would have to rear its head to get him elected twice. There are many Democrats in this state that believe that the people of Wisconsin deserve the pain Walker has put them through simply because they elected him in the first place. They believe that the claim that “we didn’t know he was going to do THIS” is evidence of a lack of critical thinking. Maybe next time, the critical thinking skills will kick into gear before you get to the polls, guys. I, personally, hope critical thinking is in operation when the poll booths open in MN, as well.
