A journalist who gets too close to her sources?

Connie Schultz, a Cleveland-based Pulitzer winning columnist received this email from a conservative blogger whose name she has not disclosed:

Dear Ms. Shultz,
We are doing an expose on journalists in the elite media who socialize with elected officials they are assigned to cover. We have found numerous photos of you with Sen. Sherrod Brown. In one of them, you appear to be hugging him.

Care to comment?

Schultz replied:

Dear Mr. [Name Deleted]:

I am surprised you did not find a photo of me kissing U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown so hard he passes out from lack of oxygen. He’s really cute.

He’s also my husband.

You know that, right?

Connie Schultz.

p.s. In 2011, because her husband was gearing up for reelection, Schultz resigned her position at the Cleveland Plain Dealer, announcing that:

“It has become painfully clear that my independence, professionally and personally, is possible only if I’m no longer writing for the newspaper that covers my husband’s senate race on a daily basis.

So Mr. Anonymous had a point.

And Mrs. Schultz has some integrity.

    Item number three

Indeed, Mr. Anonymous has a point, Ms. Schultz has some integrity, and…

    point number 3…

Mr. Anonymous also displays the bile-filled ignorance and paranoia that characterizes so much of what passes for “conservative” and “conservative thought” nowadays. It would not have required very much effort on the part of Mr. Anonymous – a cursory web search, for example – to discover that Ms. Schultz and Senator Brown are married.

    Elite Media

Does the anonymous conservative blogger consider every newspaper to be part of the elite media? I want a list of newspapers that are considered elite and those that are considered just middling. Or does the elite designation simply mean any newspaper that doesn’t toe the line of conservative talking points? Expose indeed.

This post is useless without the exposure of the blogger’s identity.
