Minnesota patients have access to some of the greatest health care in the world, still many here go without basic services, giving us some of the largest disparities in the nation. While there is near-universal agreement that we should reduce those gaps, our state has struggled to move the needle on this vital issue.

In this Oct. 21 breakfast event, MinnPost will ask: “Why is that? What are the biggest barriers to meaningful reduction in health-care disparities, and what should we do to address them?”

Executive Editor Andy Putz will put those questions to leading representatives from every corner of the Minnesota health-care community in a lively panel discussion. After the experts have given their prescriptions, audience members will have a chance to pose questions of their own, and perhaps offer a second opinion.

Guest panelists include:

  • Dr. Edward Ehlinger – Commissioner, Minnesota Dept. of Health
  • Julie Brunner – Executive Director, Minnesota Council of Health Plans
  • Stella Whitney-West – CEO, NorthPoint Health & Wellness Center
  • Dr. Bjorn Westgard – Senior Staff, Regions Hospital; Asst. Professor, University of Minnesota Medical School
  • Linda Berglin – Former State Senator

This discussion is expected to attract a wide range of people interested in advancing health equity in Minnesota, among them representatives from state and local governments, community partners, the health sector, higher education, and private industry.

The event will take place 7:30-9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, in Northrop Auditorium’s Best Buy Theater. Drinks and light breakfast items will be provided.

Registration is required, but admission to the event is free, thanks to the generous support of UCare.
