Amelia Rayno at the Star Tribune reports that a 6-month-old federal gender discrimination investigation of University of Minnesota athletics was launched this week, prompted by a claim raised in a 2014 formal complaint to the Office of Civil Rights. One area of investigation: “The [Office of Civil Rights] representatives are on campus this week to investigate, among other things, fairness in spending, facilities and opportunities. They will use accounting that differs from other Department of Education equity filings. For instance, Minnesota included 25 male students who practiced against various women’s teams as ‘female participants,’ as required in the latest Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act (EADA) report. The OCR will not consider them when totaling athletic opportunities for women, which will make at least one former practice player happy.”

From cerealists to surrealists: Beth Mattson-Teig at UrbanLand offers an overview of what it will take to convert the former Pillsbury flour mill complex into a 251-unit affordable housing project that will serve working artists: “Another aspect of the A-Mill’s history is its early use of hydropower. The early mills built on the east side of the river relied on a large tunnel system that brought water from the Mississippi that they used to power the mills. The inlet to the Pillsbury A-Mill, complete with gates and two turbine pits, is still in place. Dominium is working on a new plan to once again harness that power as a sustainable energy source for the property.”
I know a guy: Tim Nelson at MPR News reports Manny Munson-Regala, assistant commissioner of the Minnesota Department of health and overseer of the state Office of Medical Cannabis, has been hired by LeafLine Labs, a company producing the cannabis: “‘He was not actively seeking this [chief executive] position and our recruitment of him did not start until June 3, 2015 — just eight short days ago,’ said Dr. Andrew Bachman, LeafLine co-founder in a company statement.” Nelson adds that Munson-Regala has been recused from his responsibilities related to the Medical Cannabis program.

Michael Rietmulder reports Curtis took to Facebook to throw a little shade CP’s way: “You know what I’m ‘irked’ about ? Cancer. It’s eating through two of my friends. I’m ‘irked’ about children being abused and neglected. I’m ‘irked’ about senior citizens not being able to afford to live. I’m ‘irked’ about world suffering. I’m ‘irked’ about veterans who can’t get medical care. But I’m hopeful that everyday more people start to care about the things that matter and continue to step forward cause if you’re not part of the solution ? You are part of the problem.”
