Talk about a tough call. MPR’s Laura Yuen reports: “Judge Michael Davis has decided to release the first of nine ISIS-related defendants with no additional jail time. … Abdullahi Yusuf, who pleaded guilty and testified against his friends in the nation’s largest ISIS conspiracy case, will serve 20 years supervised release, in addition to the time he has already served behind bars. … ‘I hope I’m not wrong,’ Davis said Monday, looking Yusuf in the eyes. Yusuf replied, ‘I won’t let you down, your honor.’”

Remember local control? KSTP’s Brent Palm reports: “Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges is pledging her support for the city ordinance that prohibits law enforcement officers from targeting undocumented immigrants.  She’s speaking out against president-elect Donald Trump’s threat to cancel all federal funding to so-called ‘sanctuary cities.’ … Hodges released a statement Saturday titled ‘Support for Immigrant Community Keeps Minneapolis Safer’… ”

The way to a people’s hearts is through their stomachs… The Star Tribune’s Erin Adler reports: “More than 500 people gathered in Minneapolis’ Loring Park on Sunday to chat and enjoy free Somali food as part of Sambusa Sunday, an event organized by the Coalition of Somali American Leaders to thank Minnesotans for their support in the days since the election of Donald Trump as president, which has been frightening for many Somali-Americans. … “We wanted to extend … our appreciation to the average Minnesotan who reinforced the oneness of Minnesota,” said Hamse Warfa, who helped launch the group. … ”

Seems like eliminating it is the easy part. KSTP’s Jay Kolls reports: “A long-time Republican lawmaker told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS he is working on a plan to eliminate MNsure. … Republicans now have a majority in the House and Senate, at the state capitol, and the wheels are already turning to do away with the state’s health insurance marketplace known as MNsure. … House member, Greg Davids of Preston, is co-chair of the MNsure Oversight Committee.”
