Mariucci Arena renamed ‘3M Arena at Mariucci’

Can’t imagine anyone will have any kind of objection to this. GOPHERSPORTS.com informs us: “The University of Minnesota and 3M announced a new sponsorship on Monday, the latest in a 90-year relationship between two of the state’s largest institutions. This 14-year, $11.2 million sponsorship of Gopher Athletics includes the naming rights to Mariucci Arena. Keeping the historic Mariucci name, the Gopher hockey facility will now be known as 3M Arena at Mariucci.”

MnDOT trying to come up with new ways to charge us. The Star Tribune’s Eric Roper reports: “Thousands of electric cars could soon be rolling on Minnesota’s roads, spurring discussions about how to keep them all juiced for long hauls from Austin to Alexandria or Blue Earth to Bemidji. … The new models can travel more than 200 miles on a single charge, and most daily charging occurs at home. So rather than focusing on adding chargers in the metro area, the MPCA, the Minnesota Department of Transportation and others are plotting what’s needed to make long-distance travel seamless, sketching out a statewide network of superfast roadside chargers.

All politics is local, except when it’s not. The New York Times’s Mitch Smith reports: “ After a first term pockmarked by intense protests and searing criticism from the left, Betsy Hodges, the mayor of this city, is facing prominent challengers as she campaigns for re-election: a civil rights activist, a charismatic young city councilman, a progressive state lawmaker. …But the opponent Ms. Hodges talks about the most lives nowhere near here and will not appear on the ballot. His name is Donald J. Trump.

Some Twin Cities private schools are paving the way to our grade-free future. MPR’s Bob Collins reports: “An idea hatched by some private schools — including Blake in Minneapolis and Mounds Park Academy in St. Paul — may be about to revolutionize how your kids get into college, let alone how they approach their work in high school. … They want to get rid of grades and course information in high school transcripts.

    Naming rights

“the Gopher hockey facility will now be known as 3M Arena at Mariucci”

And will the men’s hockey team have “3M Gophers at U of MN” on their jerseys?

Now, who’s going to get to rename Williams Arena to “DonorCo at Williams” for more megabucks?

    Precious

So the private schools want to make college admission a “branding” deal. “Why ever would you need to see my GRADES? Don’t you know I attended THE Blake school?” (Inject as much snoot as you’d like)
