St. Paul council candidate arrested over revenge porn allegations

Something seriously wrong here. City Pages’s Mike Mullen reports: “Those wondering (or worried) about David Martinez’s whereabouts following his bizarre public behavior this month have their answer. … He’s in jail. … The St. Paul City Council candidate was arrested ‘without incident’ by St. Paul Police on Monday morning, according to department spokesman Steve Linders, who gave the time and location of Linders’ arrest as 7:30 a.m. on the ‘80 block of East Seventh Place.’ That would put Martinez near the Minnesota Department of Health building in downtown St. Paul. … Martinez worked out of that building, as does his wife, who filed a restraining order against the city council candidate last week, alleging he’d physically assaulted her on July 4.  In response to that order for protection — which mandated that he stay away from his wife and their home — Martinez published a topless photo of his wife on his campaign website.”

Give a damn about the dams? MPR’s Tim Nelson writes: “The Mississippi River between Minneapolis and St. Paul was tamed by dams a century ago, but the whitewater rapids that were covered up by deeper, calmer water could be on their way back. … The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is rethinking the future of the only natural gorge on the river. The threat of invasive fish, a changing river economy and an interest in restoring the waterway has some people pressing for the dams to go. Others want the river to stay the way it is. The Corps will host a pair of meetings Monday and Tuesday to hear them out.

Yikes. The Rochester Post Bulletin’s Brian Todd reports: “A human body part was found Saturday on the Mississippi River near the town of West Newton. … Wabasha County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call at about 4:50 p.m. that a body part was found near the small community about four miles downriver from Lock and Dam No. 4. … A local resident had been cleaning out a debris pile about 20 feet from shore when they found a shoe with a human leg — the femur down to the foot — attached, according to Wabasha County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy James Warren.”

Also yikes. KSTP’s Tommy Wiita and Beth McDonough report: “Multiple witnesses told KSTP shots were fired Sunday night at Minnehaha Park in Minneapolis. … Upon arrival to the scene, KSTP saw at least nine shell casings with evidence markers, multiple police cars and detectives at the scene. … According to Minneapolis Park Police, shots were fired around 8 p.m. in a parking lot at the Wabun Picnic area at Minnehaha Park. It’s located close to a splash pad filled with children and a pavilion where dozens of families were hanging out. ”
