Minnesota Data-Mining and Manufacturing. The Star Tribune’s Dee Depass reports: “3M Co. will acquire the healthcare technology business of M*Modal for about $1 billion, officials announced Wednesday. … The deal is expected to give Maplewood-based 3M a healthcare technology firm specializing in cloud-based, conversational Artificial Intelligence systems that help physicians capture patient information.”

Merry #RESIST-mas. The Star Tribune’s Paul Walsh reports: “As a real estate mogul, reality TV host and now president, Donald Trump is accustomed to having his name up in lights — but not like this. … ‘TRUMP IS A TRAITOR’ shines brightly in red and green holiday colors from the second-story balcony of a home that backs up to Lake of the Isles in Minneapolis, and the man behind the message says the sign is based on fact and not opinion. … ‘I think it’s hard to come to any other conclusion about someone who is willing to turn against this country for his own enrichment,’ said former mayoral candidate Tom Hoch, explaining his thinking behind his conclusion about the various scandals swirling around the president.”

Not-exactly-gracious in defeat. KSTP has an exit interview with Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek: “…‘I think it’s as simple as the Democratic process, the voters get to decide who they want as their sheriff, if they were looking for change they now have that,’ he said. ‘There are 45 cities in this county and I won 44 of the 45 cities so theoretically it doesn’t make much sense, but the core of Minneapolis had a huge voter turnout and I respect that.’”

Happy ending to yesterday’s finial heist. The Star Tribune’s Karen Zamora reports: “A large finial stolen this weekend from the top of the Como Park Conservatory dome was found Tuesday — inside a big Christmas stocking. … At least one person scaled the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory in Como Park, grabbed the globe and climbed back down. … On Tuesday, after an anonymous tip, police found the finial inside the red stocking in a parking lot east of Como Park off Lexington Parkway North, said Como Park Conservatory spokesman Matt Reinartz.”

Hutch won Minneapolis, but Stanek won Maple Plain. They are pretty much the same.
