Bold North. WCCO reports: “While the St. Paul Winter Carnival is a celebration of winter in Minnesota, its kick-off parade Thursday night has been canceled due to weather: It’ll be too cold.

Also in cancelations. KARE reports:Wabasso Public School is closing Thursday and Friday due to an outbreak of the flu. … Superintendent Wade McKittrick posted a video on the school’s Facebook page Wednesday night making the announcement. ”

Ain’t no use in callin’ out his name, babe. Public Record Media’s Mike Kaszuba writes: “In August of 2011, music legend Bob Dylan had just turned age 70. Newly obtained records show that the University of Minnesota reached out to his representatives at that same time about an archiving project. … Documents obtained by Saint Paul-based non-profit Public Record Media (PRM) reveal that the school was interested in knowing whether one of its most famous students would want to deposit his personal papers at the University’s Upper Midwest Literary Archives. … But the former student (who only attended the school for a short time) would bypass the university. Five years later, the Minnesota native would instead choose the University of Tulsa, where his personal papers would be joined with those of Woody Guthrie, the legendary folk singer and Oklahoma native whom Dylan had long idolized.”

Dangerous white powder. The AP reports (via WCCO): “General Mills is voluntarily recalling some bags of its Gold Medal Unbleached Flour because of salmonella concerns. … The 5-pound (2.26 kilograms) bags have a ‘better if used by’ date of April 20, 2020 and the UPC code 000-16000-19610-0. Customers should discard the product.”

Global climate change strikes again. We’ve become acclimated to the milder winters to such an extent that we the Winter Carnival kick off has been canceled due to “cold.” Well I remember…ah what’s the use. Civilization as we know it is coming to an end.

I know what you mean. A number of years ago I was in a unit marching in the Parade, and I remember as we turned one corner, I glanced up at the “Time and Temperature” display on the bank on the corner which was reading out at -24.

      Oh, those were the days . . . . . . . . .

Now the weather people hype the cold by focusing on windchill, that’s just weird to me, it only matters if you stand out in the wind and hopefully we’re smarter than that, but really I thought we were supposed to be proud of freezing our buns off.
