Ilhan Omar draws condemnation from colleagues over criticism of AIPAC

Ilhan on the spot. The New York Times’ Sheryl Gay Stolberg reports: “Representative Ilhan Omar, who has been battling charges of anti-Semitism for weeks, drew swift and unqualified condemnation from some fellow Democrats after she insinuated on Twitter Sunday night that American support for Israel is fueled by money from a pro-Israel lobbying group that has Jewish backing. … Two House Democrats, Representatives Elaine Luria, a freshman from Virginia, and Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey, released a letter Monday morning calling on Democratic leaders to speak out against any lawmaker who ‘uses harmful tropes and stereotypes, levels accusations of dual loyalty, or makes reckless statements like those yesterday.’”

Much more efficient than stealing kids’ lunch money. MPR’s Alex Baumhardt reports: “As voters in two southwestern Minnesota school districts prepare to decide on Tuesday whether to build new schools, the Worthington and Russell-Tyler-Ruthton school districts have been contending with a man some call the ‘bond buster.’ … Referendum opponents in both communities have brought in Paul Dorr, an Iowa consultant who works to defeat school referendums across the Midwest. For at least 25 years, across nine states, people have hired him to defeat their school district’s bond proposals. He creates mailers, radio ads and Facebook pages telling residents to vote ‘no.’”

Listening session involved actual listening. The Star Tribune’s James Walsh reports: “At a recent public hearing, speaker after speaker praised plans by developer Ryan Cos. to transform the former Ford site in St. Paul into a massive new community. … The expression of support for the project at the St. Paul Planning Commission was a remarkable turnaround. Some of those speaking were among the residents who had posted yard signs, organized petition drives and even tried renting a billboard to fight the city’s desire to add thousands of residents to their neighborhood. … Ryan, the Minneapolis developer that built St. Paul’s CHS Field and Minneapolis’ Downtown East, reached out to neighbors and won them over by, among other actions, scaling back the project’s density.”

Rich guy doing OK under Trump. The Star Tribune’s Jim Spencer reports: “Marty Davis thinks President Donald Trump has ‘done more that’s right for trade in America than any president since World War II.’ Davis, a Minnesotan and member of one of the country’s richest families, once worked on his family’s massive dairy farm. Now, he runs Cambria, a producer of quartz used in countertops and other surfaces. His battle against Chinese competitors who dumped hundreds of millions of dollars worth of government-subsidized quartz slabs into the U.S. market from 2010-2018 made him a true believer in Trump’s tariffs on some imports.”
