Earlier this summer, we announced that MinnPost is creating a club made up of existing book clubs — a community of engaged readers — with a presence on our site called Book Club Club.
Sarah T. Williams, former books editor of the Star Tribune, will host the Club, which will launch next month. Book clubs of all sizes, themes and types that meet anywhere in the state are welcome to join. Membership is free, and the sign-up page is now available here.
In our new section, we’ll be covering all sorts of things of interest to book club members and other engaged readers. For example, every other month, Sarah will attend a book club meeting somewhere in the Twin Cities metro or Greater MN. She’ll read the book to be discussed, then blog about the club, the book and the discussion. The first club she’ll write about meets in a most unusual location.
We’ll also publish Club Chatter with items from and about clubs, book club-related news and features, local best-seller lists gathered from bookstores around the state, articles from The Loft about the craft of writing, and whatever else comes up.
Why register your Book Club?
Member clubs will receive benefits including invitations to events (we’re thinking about an annual Book Club Ball, a book swap, author interviews, and others); a monthly email with news, tips, and coupons
sent to each club’s contact person for forwarding to other members; automatic entry in drawings for literary event tickets and prizes; and the opportunity to help us build and sustain a Minnesota
community of engaged readers.
The club registration form is quick and easy. You’ll see we need a name for your club — just pick a name if you don’t already have one — and a captain who is willing to be the club contact. We’ll email your club captain from time to time and ask what books the club is reading and whether you’d recommend them to others.
To protect privacy, when we write about clubs, we’ll use the club name and general location. Members’ names and emails will not be shared.
And now, a little encouragement to register. All clubs registered by August 31 will be entered in a drawing for a wine and cheese basket to spice up your September meeting. The drawing will be held and the winning club notified on September 1.
E-mail us with any questions at BookClubClub [at] MinnPost [dot] com, and happy reading.
