MinnPost has removed an article that appeared on the site over the weekend because of an author conflict of interest. The article, a feature story on the local Youth Performance Company, was reprinted from The Line magazine.
It was taken down because we learned that the author is a member of the Youth Performance Company’s board of directors and also does public relations for the group. MinnPost adheres to the Society of Professional Journalists Code of Ethics, which states that reporters should “avoid conflicts of interest, real or perceived” and “disclose unavoidable conflicts.” For this degree of conflict, MinnPost would not publish, except perhaps in Community Voices with disclosure. For lesser or former areas of conflict, editors may choose to publish an article with a disclosure statement.
