In the next seven days.
To raise $7,000 to sustain outstanding environmental coverage by Earth Journal writer Ron Meador.
The back story:
Earth Journal is MinnPost’s first groupfunded beat. It costs $50,000 a year to pay the journalists — Ron and his editors — and a share of other costs needed to keep MinnPost up and running.
In late 2012, a dozen generous donors (listed on our site) each pledged between $1,000 and $5,000/year for three years to support a twice-weekly publishing schedule. These major donations totaled $43,000 a year.
The remaining funds needed for the first year came from one-time donations ranging in size from $50 to $1,000.
All good so far.
We’re now well into the second year of Earth Journal and we need to complete the funding for 2013-2014. We need to raise $7,000 in 7 days. And we need your help.
If you’re an Earth Journal reader, you won’t be surprised by the kind of comments people make about Ron’s articles:
- Thanks, once again, for a critically important, balanced, and evidence-based article — this time on wolves and their increasingly perilous existence.
- Earth Journal is one of the reasons I became a MinnPost member.
- Earth Journal is always my first stop on MinnPost.… So, thanks Ron & MinnPost for providing a forum where reasoned and impassioned differences of opinion can respectfully play out.
- I love your column and the way it makes us think about some of the most important issues of our age.
Now back to the bottom line:
