Going to Northern Spark this year? Don’t forget to stop by MinnPost’s exhibit! That’s right — MinnPost is participating in Northern Spark for the first time ever. And we’re pretty excited to unveil our piece: Lacu.
From the collective mind of MinnPost’s data team, Lacu (Old English for ‘lake’) will be an all-night visualization of the 10,000+ lakes in Minnesota. Using data from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and other sources, the projected visualization will explore size, scale, depth, and other aspects of Minnesota’s most renowned feature: its lakes.
We’ll be projecting Lacu onto the façade of the newly-renovated Northrop Auditorium on the U of M’s East Bank. You should be able to spot us all the way across Northrop Mall. Come say ‘hi’ and learn more about MinnPost!
The MinnPost data team (director of news technology Kaeti Hinck, interactive developer Alan Palazzolo and news editor Tom Nehil) will be there all night, plus special guest MinnPosters dropping in throughout:
Art director and web editor Corey Anderson and advertising director Sally Waterman will be hanging out from 9:00-11:00pm. Office manager extraordinaire Bethany Hollenkamp will be there from 11:00pm-1:00am. High-five our new publisher Andrew Wallmeyer from 1:00-3:00am. And say hey to me, membership and events coordinator Ashleigh from 3:00-5:00am.
We’ll have some fun interactive activities for you, and even a chance to color and draw your own lake creature (or anything else you can dream up). And candy. There will be candy.
Hope to see you there!
