MinnPost is happy to announce that Erin Hinrichs is our new K-12 education reporter.
Erin comes to us from Lillie Suburban Newspapers, where she covered anything and everything, from city politics to human interest stories. A Gustavus Adolphus grad, she also has a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 2013, Hinrichs was selected from more than 700 applicants to report alongside New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof for 10 days in Mali, Niger and Chad.
As MinnPost’s education reporter, Hinrichs’ coverage will range from local school board meetings to national education policies, with a special focus on the efforts to improve outcomes for all students in Minnesota.
“I’m excited to be joining MinnPost because it has such a dedicated, engaged readership,” said Hinrichs. “It’s the type of news platform that inspires writers to do their very best — to deliver stories that take the conversation to the next level.”
Before going back to school to study journalism, Hinrichs served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Kyrgyzstan, teaching English to high school students. While not reporting, she enjoys running with her husband, Derek, and their husky, Hank.

Don’t know about your time at Gustavus, but Madison certainly qualifies you as a good writer, and Kyrgyzstan must have given you perspective to see Middle America far more clearly than most here.
