Over 90 people gathered Tuesday evening at The Happy Gnome in St. Paul to talk about the Minnesota Legislature with MinnPost reporters Briana Bierschbach and Peter Callaghan. The MinnPost Social event occurred just as Gov. Mark Dayton was announcing his decision on a package of budget bills approved by the Legislature.

MinnPost Editor Andrew Putz moderated the discussion, which touched on everything from Dayton’s line-item veto of legislative funding to next steps for state pensions, light rail and health care.

And while the conversation mostly stuck to state policy and political dynamics in Minnesota, questions about what to expect out of Washington and the Trump administration also loomed large.

The event was the last of the 2016-17 MinnPost Social series, sponsored by RBC Wealth Management, in which MinnPost journalists share their insights with the public. The events are free for MinnPost members, $10 for nonmembers.

The next MinnPost Social season will begin in fall of 2017.
