Cue the fireworks: Summer Member Drive smashes goal to fuel expanded election coverage

240(!) readers joined or renewed with donations during the Summer Member Drive, smashing the goal of 150 members, unlocking a $3,000 Challenge Fund, and fueling MinnPost’s expanded coverage in a big election year.

Almost as loud as amateur fireworks, there was much whooping and celebrating from MinnPost HQ this weekend. As the Summer Member Drive ended on Saturday, June 30, we blew past the original goal of 150 new/renewing members, garnering 240 members.

We’re overwhelmed by and grateful for this generous support. A big (BIG!) thank you to those who gave during the drive (and anyone who has given at other times in the past year). Your support unlocked a $3,000 Challenge Fund and will allow us to produce expanded coverage of the 2018 election.

Our work is driven by a belief that journalism is essential to understanding and engaging with the world around you. It’s inspiring to know MinnPost readers give a damn about Minnesota just as much as we do.

And if you meant to give during the drive, but didn’t get it around to it, there’s no time like the present. Your support, at any time and in any amount, is essential to MinnPost’s nonprofit newsroom and makes a real difference to our mission-driven journalism.

When they donate, many members tell us why they support MinnPost. Here are just a few recent comments from members who gave during the drive:

We need to protect journalism now more than ever. — Kristy Arend, Rochester
