I was happy but a little disappointed to read your article about companies donating to relief in the Philippines.

First of all, it’s really great to see these companies trying to use their resources to help those in need, and I applaud them for their efforts. The reason I was confused, though, is that these companies haven’t used this opportunity to speak out on global warming. Although these companies are helping people in the Philippines right now, they are not speaking out to stop climate change. And scientists say global warming will cause increasingly severe and frequent extreme weather events, like typhoons, in the future.

Businesses have a really important role in our society, and can be incredibly influential. Therefore, I would hope business would support Obama’s climate action plan, and speak out in support of carbon pollution limits. There is a great history of business helping with relief, but why don’t they help stop the problem?

  1. I’m ready for some warming

A couple of ice bound ships during the South Pole summer, and a few of us here in chilly MN are ready for a little global warming.
