Memorable movie quotes: This time, we’re up to six magic words — and a quiz

Back by (relatively) popular demand, it’s another edition of memorable movie quotes. This time, we’re up to six-word lines of dialogue so distinctive that many film fans may recognize the film from that line alone.

First, a brief refresher. We’ve already done:

Memorable one-word lines.

Two-word lines.

Three-word lines.

Four-word lines.

• And five-word lines.

So, on we go to six-word lines — again this time, the answers won’t appear until the end of the list, so if you’re in the mood, you can try your skills at identifying the films with this quiz.

Before we get to the list, though, here are some great online collections of film quotes — but two warnings: Several quotes from the list below are featured in the clips, so you may want to test your skills before enjoying the videos. Also, please note that several video quote clips include very strong language.

Here is a two-part look at 25 movie quotes and then a collection of one person’s 30 favorite quotes.

And if you really want to overdose on movie quotes, check out the American Film Institute’s list (PDF) of 400 nominated “best quotes,” which eventually were reduced to the Top 100 (PDF).

As always, feel free to add your nominees for other memorable six-word lines in the Comment section below.

This list of 23 quotes includes some very familiar lines and some real puzzlers. Have at ’em.

There’s no business like show business.

Isn’t “That’ll do, pig. That’ll do” only five words? Or are you counting differently than I would?

Good catch, Sue. That line sure belonged in the list of five-word movie lines, not here. I’ve no explanation for how that happened because on most days I can count to six pretty well.
