With the impending end of the space shuttle program, we offer a musical countdown in salute

As America’s space shuttle program dwindles down to its final two missions, we offer a numerical music countdown with a wide array of songs and singers.

And soon there will be none …

Just two more missions, and NASA’s space shuttle program likely will close down for good.

Mission No. 134 is tentatively set to launch on April 28, and the final one is set for June 28.

You can check out the program’s history here.

As the space shuttle’s days dwindle, we offer a numerical music countdown with a wide array of songs and singers.

All together now:

10 …  “Ten Lonely Guys,” by Pat Boone.

9 … “Love Potion Number Nine,” by the Searchers. (I can’t find an online version of the alternate ending of the original Clovers’ version, but it’s better than the usual versions:

“I had so much fun I’m going back again …

I wonder what happens with Love Potion Number 10.”)

8 … “Eight Miles High,” by the Byrds.

7 … “Seven Little Girls Sitting in the Back Seat,” by Paul Evans and  the Curls.

6 … “Six Days on the Road,” by Wisconsin’s Dave Dudley.

5 … “Five Feet High and Rising,” by Johnny Cash.

4  …  “Four Strong Winds,” by Bobby Bare.

3 … “The Three Bells,” by The Browns.

2 … “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad,”  by Meat Loaf.

1 … “One Night in Bangkok,” by Murray Head, from the Broadway musical “Chess.”

Blast off!
