The Minnesota State Fair started this past Thursday, and along with the rush of Minnesotans to attend the event, there was a simulatenous rush of local media to cover the event. I was there too, of course, snapping photos with my iPad and drinking as much free milk as I could manage, and I’ll be going all week. But I decided to cover the Fair a little differently this year, taking a look at various facets of the event via the magic of the infographic.

Here is my first of five, starting with a pro-user’s guide, including tips for saving money, and, more important, tips on how not to get involved in (or, more important, cause) the many pedestrian traffic jams that plague the event. Also on this first Infographic you’ll find some details about the Fair’s finances, its attendance, and just where its toothy mascot comes from. Later this week, look for Infographics on Fair food, shopping, art and Midway rides.
