Twins first baseman Justin Morneau had an ace up his sleeve as he hosted his first charity fundraiser casino night to raise money for the Arthritis Foundation. The event took place Aug. 13 at the International Market Square in Minneapolis. Fans had a chance to play cards alongside several other Twins players, including Joe Mauer, Michael Cuddyer and Nick Punto.
Doctors diagnosed Morneau’s 5-year-old niece with juvenile arthritis at the age of 2.
Morneau said he hopes to return next year to make the casino night an annual event. This year’s fundraiser raised close to $75,000.
