Pawlenty balks at Baucus bill

Gov. Tim Pawlenty spoke with Fox Business about the health-reform bill proposed by Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., which includes a provision to tax medical-device makers. With large medical-device companies located in Minnesota — such as Medtronic, St. Jude Medical and Boston Scientific — the bill is a local concern.

The Congressional Budget Office took a look at the bill and said it would cut the federal budget deficit by $81 billion over the next decade but at an $829 billion price tag over that same period.

A vote is expected in the Senate Finance Committee Tuesday. Read more on how this bill would hit Minnesota’s medical-device industry.
