Pawlenty’s ‘clunker’ of a joke

Gov. Tim Pawlenty, on Fox News’ “Your World with Neil Cavuto,” repeated a joke he had heard about the Cash for Clunkers program, in which people could bring in their old, less-fuel-efficient vehicles and get a government rebate toward the purchase of a cleaner more-fuel-efficient vehicle.

This clip from “The Rachel Maddow Show” includes Maddow’s conclusions about Pawlenty’s message in telling the joke.

    Way to go, Rachel!
It takes a rare simpleton to put down such a popular and successful program, at the same time he’s putting down the majority of voters in the country. As an aside on Cash for Clunkers, my ’92 Ford Ranger gets 25 mpg, so it wouldn’t have qualified, nor would my ’93 Ford Festiva or ’88 Dodge Colt, both of which got 40-45 mpg. I’d bet that most of the clunkers were old SUV’s that got 13mpg and had Coleman and Pawlenty bumper stickers all over them.

Pawlenty has ALWAYS had a bad sense of humor. And I consider a sense of humor as an example of a person’s intelligence. I remember at a Governor’s Fishing Opener a few years ago, Pawlenty told a joke about spiking Lt. Gov. Carol Molnau’s food with a laxative in an effort to win the fishing tournament only to learn that didn’t dissuade her because she wears adult diapers. Even old fishermen moaned and I remember overhearing an out-of-state journalist just aghast. And how dense do you have to be to find humor in adult diapers – especially when you are talking about a 60+ woman. He also “pantsed” former Rep. Steve Swiggum at a Minnesota House baseball game, leaving a “friend” standing around in an athletic supporter.

Mr. Powers, you always come up with the darndest facts. Pawlenty’s inability to discern bad taste from humor must account for his complete unawareness that he is looking less Presidential every day. In fact, if we just stand back and let everyone watch and listen to him lie and insult over half the country he may just talk himself into oblivion.
