St. Thomas students pledge to mind their “r-words”

A group of University of St. Thomas students produced this video to raise awareness of and put a stop to derogatory use of the word retarded. They also gathered signatures from 1,300 other students who pledged not to use the word in everyday speech. It is the result of worldwide campaign started by the Special Olympics last year to show respect to those with developmental and intellectual disabilities who find the use of the word to be offensive. The campaign is called “Spread The Word To End The Word.”
