The first ever winter bike expo was a phenomenal success with over 3000 in attendance. Folks from across the country made the trip to Minneapolis, Minnesota to attend this one of a kind expo/demo/educational event. The hardiest attendees stayed around for the grand finale: the fat tire crit. What initially looked like a snow-free day turned into a nice fluffy snow pack by race time. Minnesota mountain bike legend, Brendan Moore, earned the overall victory, followed by Fast Freddy Millls and helmet cam rider, Jake Helmbercht. Watch closely at 5:20 where Jake makes his move to usurp the Freewheel Bike throne by nearly running over shop owner, Kevin Ishaug, who crashed hard on the skinny log ride. This footage is the first lap of the 5 lap race. Of course Murphy’s law, and a low battery, kept the most fantastic moments (fire jumps, wheelies, burnouts, and war wounds) from being caught on video.
