PSA: Using ice picks for self rescue

Temperatures have been dropping below freezing in Minnesota for weeks now; lakes in the Twin Cities are starting to develop thin layers of ice and some lakes in the northern parts of the state already have inches of ice. It won’t be long before the shanties filled start to appear. In anticipation of one of the season’s most dangerous hazards, the DNR has produced a short PSA demonstrating a technique using ice picks — which can be as simple as a couple of long nails carried around one’s neck — to escape after falling through the ice.
