Gov. Dayton raises $1 million for re-election

It will be a few weeks before the public will know how much the Republican candidates for governor raised in 2013. Year-end Report of Receipts and Expenditures are due on January 31, 2014, for the period covering January 1 to December 31, 2013. I would only expect one or two of the Republican candidates to have raised over $500,000 in 2013, so Governor Dayton’s totals could give him a sizable lead.

Yesterday my family started the day frustrated and losing hope that the promise of the Affordable Care Act would ever be realized. This morning we find ourselves enrolled (and having paid our first premium!) in a solid comprehensive plan that will reduce our monthly health insurance premium by $900, and spare us an additional $300 to $400 (or more) a month in deductibles, co-pays, and out-of-pocket expense!

Other banks in return, were issuing new cards for their customers, simply because it would protect both against the fraud. Target, simply stated to, “look at statements.” Maybe I’ve come to expect more of Target, or maybe I’m still baffled as to how one of Minnesota’s greatest companies could handle a data breach so poorly. It was almost a P.R. case study for what NOT to do. By remaining quiet until the last possible minute about the breach and ignoring customer’s questions on Facebook and Twitter, they hurt potential relationships and trust. By refusing to admit the PINs were stolen, Target solidified a message of either, “We actually have no idea what happened,” or even worse, “We know, but don’t believe you need to hear the truth until we have to tell you.” Truly, either way is not what we’re used to, from such a forward-thinking retailer.

Now, as a city dweller, my husband has become somewhat obsessed with our backyard rink as I’ve noticed quite a few of our family members and friends are. The guys strategize and drink beer while trying to create a perfect mirror surface atop backyard crabgrass. Nature is a cruel task master however, and it has bested others at the rink game. Our neighbor was so gung-ho a couple of years ago, he went right out and got a liner and boards but after an entire winter of teasing (a week of flooding for a pristine surface and then weather too hot and melted ice and slushy ice and bumpy ice and then too cold and more flooding and then perfect and then too warm again and lumpy and, well, like that) he cried uncle.
