When it was time to move back to Minnesota, I’d learned something: I’m terrible at making myself go to the gym. While I love walking and biking, I hate treadmills and stationary bikes. If I was going to have any hope of maintaining my new-found healthy habits, I needed to live somewhere from which I could walk to work. I picked Loring Park over the North Loop and Mill District because I wanted to be close enough to be able to use the skyways. The view didn’t hurt either.

From a state perspective, a Heitkamp victory would change the landscape from the moment she was inaugurated. The Democratic-NPL Party has been on life support for years. “Gov. Heitkamp” would resuscitate the party in a way that otherwise may take decades. A Democrat would have the bully pulpit and could control the statewide political conversation. Republicans, a supermajority in the legislature now and for the foreseeable future, would need to worry about Heitkamp’s veto power (although they could override vetoes). There would actually be checking and balancing.
Caring for a loved one from afar

Long-distance travel makes me reflective. I think about the 337 miles between my parents and my adult life where my job and my husband reside. And as I traveled recently on an Amtrak train to visit my folks, I couldn’t help but wonder if this type of travel would be useful if and when my parents require more assistance.
My punk rock summer
