Congresswoman Michele Bachmann’s campaign sent a fundraising email to supporters Sunday — the day after she won the Ames Straw Poll — which seemed to assume that many of them don’t follow the news.

The email said:

Dear Fellow Conservative,

I have amazing news to share with you.

History was made yesterday in Iowa. Our campaign won the Ames Straw Poll!

Iowans took to the polls Saturday to deliver a strong message to Washington: America cannot afford four more years of Barack Obama and his failed liberal policies, and our campaign for president is the right choice to put our nation back on a path to prosperity.

Iowa is where President Obama’s campaign got started — and these results show that Iowans, and the rest of the nation, are ready to make Barack Obama a one-term president.

And they use the news to ask for support:

Our campaign is about reclaiming independence from a government that has gotten too big, spends too much and has taken away too much of our liberty. Your support means so much — because it enables us, together, to reach millions of like-minded constitutional conservative Americans. Remember that small donations add up to big dollars — all being put to use to ensure our voices are heard loud and clear in Washington.

In the coming months I will be traveling across the country, sharing our message of constitutional conservatism and my vision for restoring America with the American people. I hope to see you at events on the campaign trail, and to strengthening our nation with you by my side.

Thank you for your continued support and friendship.
