A two-minute film by Minnesotan Michael Wilson was selected for last Saturday’s presidential announcement by Texas Gov. Rick Perry.
The Fourth of July-themed video talks about our nation’s hopes for peace and prosperity, thanks to the nation’s founders. It talks about free markets, limited government and self-determination.
Wilson, who is an atheist, might be an odd choice for Perry, a devout conservative Christian who likes to pray. But Wilson’s film company works for other political candidates, including Republican Joe Miller’s failed Alaska Senate run in 2010.
In a story about the film and Perry, Politico said:
Although Wilson does not believe in God, he says he’s “not an evangelical atheist” and doesn’t hold Perry’s faith against him because “the Constitution allows us freedom of religion, and that extends to public officials.”
And Wilson told Politico he would be open to more work for Perry’s campaign: “I plan to be involved a lot in politics during this election cycle.”
On the Facebook page for his production company, Odd Lamp Productions, it says:
A few weeks ago, we entered a video contest for Governor Rick Perry of Texas at the behest of a good friend (it’s been a long time since we’ve done something like that!). The prize was that Gov Perry would introduce the video at a big conservative gathering this weekend in South Carolina. We won. Today, we found out we’ll be a part of American history. We’re honored.
