Pawlenty signs marriage pledge

Tim Pawlenty will become the fourth GOP presidential candidate to sign a National Organzation for Marriage pledge to protect traditional marriage.

NOM announced his signing this afternoon, a day after Michele Bachmann, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum signed the pledge. Pawlenty had originally declined to sign the pledge, a move that had NOM “scratching our heads.”

Candidates signing the pledge commit to:

  • Support and send to the states a federal marriage amendment defining marriage as one man and one woman,
  • Defend the Defense of Marriage Act in court,
  • Appoint judges and an attorney general who will respect the original meaning of the Constitution,
  • Appoint a presidential commission to investigate harassment of traditional marriage supporters,
  • Support legislation that would return to the people of D.C. their right to vote for marriage.

The National Organization for Marriage (NOM) is a misnomer.

If the group were honest, it would call itself NOJOKM, the National Organization for Just One Kind of Marriage.

    Thank you, Tim.

I also look forward to the NOJOKM’s explanation and description of the “original meaning” of the Constitution, so that judicial and attorney-general candidates will know just when to genuflect, and in whose direction, before they aggressively pursue those hateful harassers of traditional marriage supporters, whoever and wherever those harassers might be.

That this organization exists, and that its members take themselves seriously, is one more among many signs of the dysfunctional state of political and social discourse in the United States.

Oh, what a relief. Timmy finally saw the light and said, “Me, too! Me, too!” to the sanctimonious marriage meddlers and signed their little pledge (now does that come with a secret handshake or does signing in blood cover it?) that
calls for appointing “a presidential commission to investigate harassment of traditional marriage supporters”. Finally, someone is focusing on what’s really important! Never mind jobs and the economy, let’s INVESTIGATE those harrassing traditional marriage. That’s a good use of money…What a relief that cultural icons like flip-floppin’ Mitt, holier-than-thou Santorum (google him to find out more about his issues), and submissive-to-Marcus Michele have our backs on this crucial issue. Yes, Timmy, so glad you keep showing your true colors: yellow and beige.

Tpaw will do or say just about anything to gain some votes. Can we all say Flip Flop? Every thing he ever stood for (which wasn’t much) has been thrown out the window. Tpaw will sign up for whatever the handlers think will get some support. He needs it since no one cares much about what he thinks. He’s a true politician.
