Bachmann wins Minnesota State Fair straw poll

Minnesota Republicans held an unscientific straw poll at their booth at the Minnesota State Fair, giving fairgoers of any stripe who were willing to enter the GOP booth a chance to weigh in on the presidential candidates.

From the beginning of the fair Aug. 25, hometown favorite Congresswoman Michele Bachmann held a comfortable lead.

Here are the results showing the top four when the Fair ended Monday night:

  • Bachmann, 2,300
  • Rick Perry, 1,901
  • Ron Paul, 1,181
  • Mitt Romney, 617

Bachmann and Paul were a close first/second in the Ames, Iowa, straw poll early last month (Perry hadn’t yet entered the race in time), which shows the congresswoman is very popular with Republican Midwestern straw poll participants.

The real news here is Mitt Romney’s fourth place finish in which he could not crack four digits in the MNGOP State Fair Poll.

Romney got only 617 votes, which ironically is the same number as the 617 Area Code for Boston, Mass.; Minnesota Republicans left a strong message on Mitt’s answering machine: We are not buying your 2012 product.

Wonder how many of those who voted for Bachmann know that the only job she ever held outside of politics was as an IRS attorney; voted with Obama on the FISA bill to give immunity to telecomms for spying on Americans; and recently voted to renew the Patriot Act, erroding more of our freedom? How many of Perry’s voters know he was a one-time Al Gore campaign chair in TX?

“How many of Perry’s voters know he was a one-time Al Gore campaign chair in TX?”

I would bet most of us. Being a former democrat is no liability. It shows intellectual evolution.
