Michele Bachmann took her first veiled shot at the recent sexual harassment allegations made against Herman Cain on Tuesday, telling voters the GOP should not nominate a candidate with “surprises” in his or her record.

Speaking to a group of voters at an Iowa church, Bachmann said, “This is the year when we can’t have any surprises with our candidate,” referring to decade-old charges of sexual harassment leveled against Herman Cain unearthed in a Politico story this week.

Cain is only the most recent conservative darling in the Republican presidential race, having sapped support away from Bachmann and Texas Gov. Rick Perry. Recent polls show him to be tied for the lead in Iowa while Bachmann is in the single digits.
