This contest had ended. See winner below.

The beer summit between Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. and his arresting officer, Sgt. Joseph Crowley, was held at the White House last Thursday. It inspired the Twitterati that a local summit could be convened, in part because a hometown beer, Summit, would be the appropriate sponsor.

This week’s MP140 question for MinnPost followers on Twitter is “Which two Minnesotans would you like to see sit down and hash out their differences over a beer?” Political rivals? Vikings quarterbacks?

Join Twitter, follow MinnPost, and tweet your answer, remembering to add #mp140 to your tweet. The Twitterer with the best answer will receive two tickets to the 2009 Renaissance Festival in Shakopee. Winner will be announced Wednesday morning.

  1. Bill Cooper and Abraham Lincoln although neither is a Minnesotan but were/are concerned with BIG money.

  2. Since Crowley walked away without acknowledging any error, I’d say the “summit” was a waste of time. Before he ever responded to that call about a suspected burglary:
#1) As the person charged with teaching fellow officers how to avoid racial profiling, he should have been thoroughly familiar with some of the television documentaries about black history and experience in America that were hosted by one of his community’s leading citizens. He then would have recognized Dr. Gates immediately, upon sight.
#2) He should have asked his department to check public records for the homeowner’s identity, which would have enabled him to quickly recognize Gates as the resident, especially after seeing his ID cards.

  3. Thomas Friedman and Tim Pawlenty 50% must be about foreign policy, also domestic policy of ethanol.

  4. I think Coleman and Franken are the obvious two with the dispute to go over, and it should be overseen by former governor Jesse Ventura, as he’s neutral (at least in theory).

    Could be fun.

  5. Hey I don’t tweet but I think Friedman/Governor Pawlenty is the winning choice!

  6. I’d enjoy the MSNBC discussion-panel guest (Black sociology professor) who described the Beer Summit as a brew-ha-ha that could just help heal what ales us.
