Details for the Civic Fest, the community festival that will run at the Minneapolis Convention Center during the Republican National Convention, were released this week.
It will feature many historical exhibits — including a model White House and Oval Office, a full-scale replica of Air Force One, and items from the Minnesota Sesquicentennial celebration — as organizers hope to engage local citizens as well as the 45,000 visitors expected for the convention.
Although the Sept. 1-4 convention will be held at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, hotels, restaurants and meeting rooms around the Twin Cities metro area will be used. The Civic Fest will be close to the thousands of visitors staying in downtown Minneapolis.
The Civic Fest will open before the actual convention, running Aug. 29 — Sept. 4; it will overlap with the final four days of the Minnesota State Fair, which ends on Labor Day, Sept. 1.
Ticket prices are: $15 for adults and $10 for students, seniors and active-duty military; children under 8 admitted free. Group rates are $10 for adults and $6 for students, seniors and active-duty military in groups of twenty or more.
